The Third Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge (hereinafter referred to as "Nanjing Third Bridge") is an important passage for the Shanghai-Chengdu (Shanghai-Chengdu) national highway to cross the Yangtze River in the Nanjing area. The Ninghe Expressway from the north to Pukou is connected to Zhangdian. The whole line is 15.6 kilometers. It is designed according to the standard of two-way six-lane expressway. The 648-meter steel box-girder cable-stayed bridge with double towers and double cable plane steel towers has a height of 215 meters and a maximum passage height of 32 meters, which can be used for 10,000-ton ships. There are four interchanges on the whole line of the Three Bridges: Liucun Interchange, Tianhou Village Interchange, Gaowang Interchange and Zhangdian Interchange; two service areas and one main line toll station are set up. The project officially started in August 2003. It was completed and opened to traffic 22 months ahead of schedule on October 7, 2005, with a total investment of 3.39514 billion yuan. In the national-level completion acceptance, Sanqiao received a high score of 97.35 with a comprehensive score of 97.35, and the engineering grade was excellent. Since then, Sanqiao has successively won six awards including the 7th China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award, the 2006 Special Award for Science and Technology Progress of the China Highway Society, and the 2007 "Gusta Lindenz" Medal issued by the American IBC.
