The Shenzhen Outer Ring Expressway is an important "horizontal" in Shenzhen's "eight horizontal and 13 vertical" arterial road network planning, with a total length of about 94 kilometers, consisting of the Shenzhen section and the Dongguan section. The Shenzhen section is 77 kilometers long. The project is constructed in three phases with a total investment of about 29.6 billion yuan. It is the first "PPP" model investment project in the domestic highway industry. The first phase of the Shenzhen section is 51 kilometers long and opened to traffic at the end of December 2020. As a provincial-level technology demonstration road for smart highways in Guangdong Province, it is the country's first expressway to achieve full 5G coverage; the second phase is 9.35 kilometers long and is planned for 2022 It was completed and opened to traffic in the year; the third phase of the project is 16.83 kilometers long, and the preliminary work of the project is currently underway.
After the completion of the Outer Ring Expressway, it will be interconnected with Shenzhen’s 10 expressways and 8 first-class highways. It will become the longest traffic artery running through the east and west in Shenzhen. It will effectively improve the regional transportation and investment environment and contribute to the promotion of “Shenzhen-Dongguan benefits”. Integration and the social and economic prosperity of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area have important strategic significance.
